Leaks, leaks and more leaks
I purchased this pot since a friend of mine had one and has been using it for a while. I purchased this on May 30th and unfortunately wasn't able to use it until now (July 15th). I saw the reviews so I filled my pot a few days ago and let it sit for an hour and saw no leaks. Great I thought. Today I was going to brew my first 5 gallon batch of beer. I pulled out my burner, added 5 gallons of water to the pot and fired it up. It's a hot day out so I thought it was just condensation forming about 1.5" from the bottom because of the cool (70ish) water. After a closer look I noticed that near the bottom of the pot it was actually dripping. Then I saw another drip from a different spot. Then another spot started to drip. I turned everything off and discovered pitting all around the outside of the bottom of the pot almost like a ring about 1.5" from the bottom. It was like a strainer. So in the end, I cannot return this since I missed the return window. I will try to smear some jb weld on it to see what happens. Hopefully that will fix the leaking. If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this, let me know. If not, I guess I am just out of $80. Live and learn? If you purchase this pot, fill it to the top and put it on your burner. Like I said above, it was fine until I added heat to it. EDIT 07-15-2013 3:57pm: Just called the customer service department. They asked that I email them a few pictures of the pitting. I received an email back within an hour stating that they were sending me a new pot via UPS and it would be in the mail today. AWESOME customer service. Had to change it to 3 stars just because of that.

    Like many others, I've been using this pot to home brew. I was mainly focused on 5 gallon batches so I picked up the 36qt model and my only regret is not getting a large pot for larger future batches. As many have said, the steel seems a bit thin but I've found beyond appearance, it has made no difference in my brewing. It holds heat well and does not deform easily as you might be worried about. The handles are welded on and work great. They don't leak and they've been sturdy enough as I tote boiling liquid around. My feet thank Bayou Classic for not letting me down and pouring scalding liquid all over them. For the same reason, I imagine this pot would be great for those who which to do deep fries in it, though admittedly I have little experience with that.

    The 36qt has been great for the smaller batches. It limits the chance of boil over and really gives you the "working room" you might feel you're missing in smaller pots. It's also still very easily cleanable as it fits fine in my sink, something many of my friends have complained about when working with their larger pots. If you think you have a bright future in brewing, I would still encourage you to get a larger pot and grow into it but don't feel like it's a bad choice to buy the smaller ones. I am very happy with my decision. If you're in the market for a stainless steel pot, for the money, it can't be beat.

    I brew either 10 or 15 gallon batches and this kettle does a great job. I run off about 18 gallons to it and expect just under 3 gallons of boil off. By having it hold just over 20 gallons I can manage the heat break just fine. It cleans up easy and I've done about 30 batches with it. The handles are welded on but seem very sturdy. We have to heft this beast with 15+ gallons and the only thing with a chance of breaking is our backs.

    I've very happy with this product. For anybody thinking of brewing 10 gallons batches but just might want to move to 15 (like what I did) this kettle is perfect. I have not put a spigot or anything like that on it so I can't make a comment in that direction. The lid is pretty nice, it has a a very small hole in it that you could maybe use to poke a thermometer down in. Overall the kettle is a solid piece of metal. 2 of my other brewing buddies use the exact same one, we all love them and the 3rd brew friend is jealous...

    If I somehow lost this kettle I would immediately just buy another one since it's so much cheaper then what any Local Home Brew Store would sell, or any top end Blichmann kettle.

    I purchased this pot a few years ago for brew in a bag all grain brewing along with the strainer that goes with it to keep the bag off of the bottom. I drilled a hole in the pot to install a 1/2" weldless ball valve for easy transfer with no problems, just get a good step drill bit. I built a brew stand to keep the pot elevated and attached a heavy duty eye bolt to the ceiling of my garage so I could attach a ratchet strap. I then use the ratchet strap to easly lift the strainer and grains out to drain. After nearly two years of use this pot has held up very nicely. The handles have never leaked like some reviewers, and I do tend to fill it pretty full for higher gravity beers. The lid has held up and fits the pot nicely. I have dropped the lid many times on my concrete garage floor and it has not deformed or dented at all. I do wish that I would have purchased the 62 Quart pot for the added room because the strainer does take up so much room, but that is my own fault for not doing enough research. The Bayou Classic pots are a great value. I figure this pot will last me several more years.

    Though the stainless is a bit thin (not quite sure of the gauge), this 11 gallon pot is quite good/sturdy for homebrewing. I have not had a problem with the rivets leaking, as in the prior post. The vented lid is good, in that it allows the steam pressure to escape, so the lid isn't bobbling up and down. The vent is small enough so you don't lose too much heat, either. Be VERY careful when using lids when homebrewing, of course...you don't want a boil-over.

    Though it would be nice if the bottom had an aluminum disc clad between sstainless layers, for better heat distribution, you stil can't beat the price, coupled w/ no tax and free super saver shipping.

    I was shopping for a while looking for a pot big enough to do an all-grain batch of homebrew, and not break the bank for just a hobby. At under $100 for a stainless pot of this size and quality, I do not regret my decision. Maybe a bit more volume than I need at this point, but the size is still manageable.

    Don't be scared-off by some of the bad reviews, which if you notice are years old. The "leaky rivets" are irrelevant, since the current pot design has the pot and lid handles securely welded on. Some people complained of leakage around the base, but I didn't have any problem. The metal itself is suitable gauge, and you would have to be a quite careless to dent it.

    Pros:
    * Reasonably priced
    * Sturdy construction
    * At 11 gallons, ample space to brew 5+ gallons of homebrew
    * Fits perfectly on my Bayou SP-10 propane burner

    Cons:
    * Bottom not tri-clad
    * No spigot (but there is one on a different model for more $$$)

    In summary, this is a decent brewpot if you are a homebrewer and looking for an entry-level pot to do 5 gallon or larger boils. If you are looking for one with a spigot, level gauge, thermometer, etc, then be prepared to fork-out considerably more cash for a different model. For me this one works just fine, it was more than I expected at this price point.
